The House Committee on Natural Resources held a hearing on Sibuyan mining in  response to HR 274 of Cong. Eleandro Madrona and HR 289 of Cong. Rufus Rodriguez last 27 May 2009. Kagawad Minerva Romero of Brgy. Espana represented SAM/Sibuyan ISLE. She made a very strong comment that the issue is not only the cutting of trees but mining itself and its ramifications on the life and livelihood of the people. She also consistently asserted that Sibuyan is a no go zone for mining.
